Skylar Alexis Corvin
Skylar Alexis Corvin was granted her angel wings on June 2, 2009, following her five year battle
with bone cancer. Skylar spent her final days on earth surrounded by friends and loved ones
that were grateful to have their hearts touched by her. Even though she was here with us a
short thirteen years, the memories she created will last a lifetime.
Skylar's life would seem so short to many, but those who were touched by her spirit totally
understood that quality, not quantity, was time well spent. Skylar believed that smiles could
fix the world and laughter was the best medicine
.

Even though Skylar had a serious disease, she made the best of everything. She possessed
an amazing strength, and an incredible courage that most adults will never have. She always had a positive outlook, and accepted the bad with the good. Skylar always felt that the bad times
were just "speed bumps" in the road of life.

With Skylar's passing, we are reminded how life is to be celebrated, not mourned. Although
we will miss her every single day, she will never be forgotten. She has taught us so many life lessons, and how important it is to make every moment count.

Skylar leaves behind many wonderful doctors, nurses, and caregivers that have helped her along her journey. Skylar's love extends to our wonderful hospice staff, the nurses on the 11th floor peds at Roanoke Memorial, the Pediatric Oncology Clinic, the Radiation Oncology staff and the staff from Childrens' National Medical Center in Washington D.C. All these special people, too numerous to mention, provided Skylar with the love and dignity in her life and also in her death. We are all truly thankful for everything that they have done.

Skylar is preceeded in death by her great-grandparents Frank and Phyllis Lamb, William and Sandra King, Robert and Ruth Moses, and her grandfather Kenneth Lloyd Corvin.

Skylar is survived by her loving parents, Chris and Marcy Corvin, and by her two amazing brothers Logan and Mason Corvin. She also leaves behind her grandparents Frank and Maribeth Greenway, Eddie and Ann Bryant, and Teresa Corvin. Skylar will also be greatly missed by her uncles Matthew, Joseph, and Joshua Greenway, and her uncle Joshua Perdue. Skylar also leaves behind her aunts Melissa Greenway, Mary Andrews, and Traci Corvin. She also will be missed by her cousins Sierra, Miranda, Jayden and Jacob.

Other special people in Skylar's life include her godmother Anne Marie Hutchens, her homebound teacher Mr. B, and special friends Eric Effinger and Corey Lunsford. She will also be greatly missed by her special canine companion RudyDaBooty.

We would like to invite friends and family to a celebration of Skylar's life. Friends and family are welcome to join us at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 2pm - 3pm on Sunday June 7th. The service celebrating Skylar's life will begin at 3pm at the same location.

Skylar was a very generous and giving person, and would like her memory to benefit others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Skylar's memorial fund at "To the Benefit of Skylar Corvin". Donations will be taken at any Wachovia branch in Roanoke, Virginia.

Skylar, thanks so much for the many gifts that you have given all of us. You have touched our lives forever. You Rock!

Update on Skylar's condition 5/26/08

Hey everyone, this is Skylars Dad. So sorry for the long delay in updating her website. Life has not been the best for us in the last few months. Skylar has been through quite a bit and she is not doing very well. Over the last few months we have searched and searched for treatment and options to help Miss Skylar. We traveled to Washington D.C. for a few months to try an experimental medicine that worked well for about 3 months. Then she had new tumors forming throughout her body, so we could not continue that protocol. She has two very large tumors on each side of her skull. Also there are two very large tumor inside, one on the stomach and the other around her kidneys.

At the beginning of May of this year, the doctor told us that Skylar's body was no longer producing bone marrow and without continuous transfusions she would get weaker and weaker and drift off to sleep. On May 12th Skylar suffered a pretty severe stroke and it effected her entire right side. She lost her ability to speak and swallow for about 2-3 days. We brought in Hospice per Skylar's previous wishes if this was to happen. About 6 days later on the 17th she suffered her 2nd stroke completely immobilizing her right side. Her mind is still there and she trys very hard to be brave and communicate with us as best she can. She does get frustrated because she cannot be as independent as she always has been.

Yesterday, Monday the 25th, she had her first seizure. She has lost all the feeling from the waist down. As of now we are keeping her very comfortable and staying by her side 24/7. Please continue all the prayers for her as you have all this time. I will update this site more often every couple of days....I promise. She gave that cancer a run for its money. Its been a 5 year battle and the strength she has shown has amazed me and made me so proud of my little girl. I think she is ready to be an angel. Time for her to get her wings, be healed and made whole again. Time for the pain to end and have a much needed break from the battle of cancer.

Sill fighting

Hello everyone. I wanted to take a second and thank everyone for all the messages of support and love I have received over the last year. In July of this year I had a new tumor come up on my right jaw bone. My oncologist told me it was my Ewing's returning, and unfortunately they think the cancer is Chemo-resistant. Meaning the chemo we have use already aren't working anymore. With the help of Dr. Buck (my radiation Dr.) I decided to do radiation. In August the doctor repeated my scan and found other tumors beginning to form. Around the first of October I began radiation on my head (they found a tumor on my skull and it was pushing down towards my brain) and on my left arm between my wrist and elbow. I only have 6 more rounds of radiation left....yeah!!!!! Everyone continue to keep in touch. My dad is setting up a newsletter type thing to email everyone and tell them how I am doing about twice a month. Everyone please leave me their email address so I can stay in touch easier.

Thanks again for all your words of encouragement.

Leave me your email address
